Make a Difference to Someone's Life

Volunteer for the Home Library Service

‘The home library service has made life more enjoyable for me. I look forward to the visits every month'

Lincs Inspire Libraries provides a library and information service to housebound people and their carers who because of personal circumstances, age, illness or disability are unable to get to the library.

By volunteering for the Lincs Inspire Libraries you will be:

  • Visiting clients in their own homes,
  • Selecting books at the library for your reader
  • Finding out what the reader wants next
  • Taking requests and passing them on to library staff
  • Returning books and other materials to the library
  • Keeping records of loans

The benefits of Volunteering:

  • Self fulfilment
  • Learning new skills
  • Knowing you are making a difference to people's lives
  • Finding new interests and friends
  • Being appreciated
  • Giving something back to the community
    • Lincs Inspire Libraries values our volunteers, therefore, we:

      • Offer training and an induction
      • Do not require you to go into anyone's home on your own; you will be partnered with another volunteer
      • Do not expect you to have your own car and although it would be an advantage, we would partner you with a driver
      • Ask you to decide how many readers you would like.
      • Offer a high level of support and at off-peak times library staff may be able to give further help
      • Organise volunteer meetings and provide a volunteer newsletter
      • Pay mileage to drivers quarterly

      In return we ask you:

      • To commit to one day each month
      • Be reliable and friendly
      • Keep your readers informed of any changes to your book delivery day
      • Provide minimal paperwork to library staff

If you are interested in becoming a Home Library Service Volunteer please contact the Community Services Assistant.

All Applicants will be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check.
